Our Services

ACUPUNCTURE

When you arrive for your first acupuncture appointment I will ask you to complete a comprehensive intake form. The acupuncture intake form asks questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family history. These questions are important because the holistic approach of Oriental medicine takes everything into account. Your current symptoms may not seem related to past health issues, but our bodies are complex landscapes and everything that happens to them leaves its mark.

After reviewing your intake form, we will discuss your condition, and I will examine your pulse and tongue, which are two of the basic diagnostic methods of Oriental medicine. The acupuncture points I choose will depend on your condition, but you can expect approximately 20 needles. Once the needles are inserted, I will leave you to lie comfortably for 30-45 minutes with the needles in place. Many people find acupuncture treatment deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time.

What is Acupuncture?

Several thousand years ago, East Asian practitioners discovered that the body forms disharmonies as a result of the various physical and mental stresses of life. Oriental medical theory explains these disharmonies as an imbalance of opposing forces called yin and yang. This imbalance disrupts the movement of the body’s vital energy (qi) along the meridian pathways, which are channels through which the body’s energy is thought to flow. Acupuncture restores the smooth flow of qi. By inserting and manipulating needles at specific points on the body, I am able to return the body to its natural balance and promote the body’s ability to heal itself.

Many first-time patients are concerned that acupuncture needles will feel like hypodermic injections at the doctor’s office. They won’t. Acupuncture uses hair-thin, flexible needles that you will hardly feel when I insert them. When I gently stimulate the needles they may produce a unique sensation that Oriental medicine calls de qi. Patients often describe de qi as a heavy, achy pressure, or spreading, traveling feeling. You may also feel an “electrical” sensation moving down the meridian pathways, though this is less common. Most patients find these acupuncture sensations deeply satisfying and leave the treatment feeling relaxed both mentally and physically.

The benefits of acupuncture are cumulative, so more than one treatment is necessary. For acute conditions you can expect to have 10 to 15 treatments, but you will usually begin to feel relief after just the first few. Chronic conditions may take longer to respond, depending on the type, severity, and duration of the condition. Preventative treatments and treatments for general well-being may also be scheduled on an as-needed basis.

Yes. Acupuncture is used by millions of Americans every year. Acupuncturists are required to undergo extensive education, including detailed study of human anatomy and training in Clean Needle Technique. I have passed comprehensive national board examinations administered by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and am licensed by the state. As required by law, I use pre-sterilized, disposable, single-use needles to ensure your complete safety.

Acupuncture works by activating the body’s own healing powers, so it can be beneficial for many health conditions. The World Health Organization (WHO) has documented many symptoms, diseases, and conditions that have been shown in controlled clinical trials to be effectively treated with acupuncture. Below are some common conditions I can treat, but please feel free to contact me about your specific health condition.

Our Services

Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbs are often used in conjunction with acupuncture for added therapeutic effect. While many cultures have herbal medicine traditions, the sophistication of Chinese herbal medicine is unsurpassed. Chinese herbal medicine has a long history reaching back several thousand years, and the resulting system is now used to treat everything from the common cold to certain types of cancer.

There are thousands of herbs in the Chinese materia medica, of which about 300 are commonly used. You will generally receive a mixture of several different herbs in a formula that has been tailored to your condition. Chinese herbs are extremely effective and normally have only mild side effects, however it is very important to tell me about all the medications and supplements you are currently taking so that we can avoid any unwanted interactions with your formula.

Cupping

Cupping is the application of a device, in the shape of a round glass or plastic cup via suction to the body. Below is a list of uses for cupping:

  • Pain
  • Vascular Circulation
  • Muscle Fatigue
  • Phlegm in the Chest / Lungs
  • Improved Immune Function
  • Weight Loss

There are a different techniques which can be applied depending on the case such as:

Fire Cupping: The most traditional form of cupping, usually applied to the back, and broad areas of the body. Glass cups are placed on the body with the use of a flame source to create the vacuum.

Suction Cupping: Used typically on more articulate areas of the body, such as the neck, arms and legs. Plastic cups are placed on the body with the use of a hand tool designed to siphon out air creating the vacuum.

Sliding Cupping: This is an alternate for of fire cupping, which involves the use of massage oil to slide the cups along the back, resulting in the loosening of phlegm within the chest and the relaxation of overused muscles.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a highly effective therapeutic technique used to treat muscular pain, tension, and limited mobility. It involves inserting thin, sterile needles directly into myofascial trigger points—tight bands or knots within muscles that can cause pain and restrict movement. This targeted stimulation elicits a local twitch response, helping to release muscle tension, increase blood flow, and restore normal function. Dry needling is especially helpful for athletes, individuals with chronic pain, and anyone recovering from muscle-related injuries.

Benefits of dry needling may include:

Effective Pain Relief

By targeting trigger points and releasing muscle tension, dry needling can help alleviate pain.

Improved Range of Motion

The procedure may enhance flexibility and movement by releasing tight muscles.

Muscle Function

Dry needling can help improve muscle function by addressing areas of dysfunction.

Reduced Muscle Tightness

It aids in reducing muscle tightness and promoting relaxation.

Enhanced Healing

Dry needling may stimulate blood flow and promote the body’s natural healing processes.

Drug-Free and Minimally Invasive

Dry needling offers a natural, drug-free alternative for pain relief with minimal side effects and no medication involved.

Dry needling is commonly employed to address the following conditions:

Muscle Pain and Tightness

Dry needling is frequently used to alleviate muscle pain and tightness, especially in areas with trigger points or knots.

Myofascial Pain Syndrome

This is a chronic condition characterized by localized areas of muscle pain and inflammation known as trigger points. Dry needling can target these trigger points to provide relief.

Tension Headaches and Migraines

By targeting muscles in the neck and shoulders, dry needling may help reduce tension headaches and migraines.

Neck and Back Pain

Dry needling is often used to address pain and dysfunction in the neck and back muscles, including conditions like chronic low back pain.

Sciatica

Dry needling may be applied to muscles surrounding the sciatic nerve to help alleviate pain associated with sciatica.

Joint Pain

In some cases, dry needling is used to complement treatments for joint pain, such as osteoarthritis or temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction.

Sports Injuries

Dry needling can be part of the rehabilitation process for sports-related injuries, such as strains, sprains, or overuse injuries.

Fibromyalgia

Dry needling may be considered as part of a multimodal approach to managing pain and improving function in individuals with fibromyalgia.

Postural Dysfunction

For individuals with poor posture or imbalances in muscle activation, dry needling may be used to target specific muscles and promote better alignment.

Can acupuncture be used to treat infertility?

As early as 3,000 years ago, doctors of Chinese medicine discussed the diagnosis and treatment of reproductive disorders and infertility – for both men and women. Historically, the Chinese have placed great emphasis on family, and so the best minds in Chinese medicine were usually sought out to help those struggling with infertility.  Recent scientific studies support the utlization of fertility acupuncture and chinese herbal medicine as a treatment for infertility, and other reproductive disorders. This growing body of evidence demonstrates that fertility acupuncture can improve fertility rates by enhancing physiological processes related to fertility. Additionally, it is shown that acupuncture can increase blood flow to the endometrium, helping to facilitate a thick, rich lining.

Acupuncture is similar to physical therapy in that it is a process oriented method of medical intervention. It is better to do more than less. Patients are commonly treated for three to four months before an insemination, in vitro fertilization (IVF), or donor-egg transfer. This period of treatment seems to have a therapeutic effect.

In a study by Stener-Victorin et al from the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology Fertility Centre, Scandinavia and University of Gothenburg, women are encouraged to receive acupuncture treatments pre and post embryo transfer. Clinical observations from the Berkley Center for Reproductive Wellness suggest that the most effective fertility treatments involve a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and traditional medical interventions. However, conception does sometimes occur when acupuncture and herbal medicines are used without traditional medical interventions.

Typically most miscarriages occur within the first three months of pregnancy. Therefore, treatment of patients may often last through week twelve to help prevent miscarriage.

Acupuncture can be used to treat any type of fertility disorder including spasmed tubes. (Spasmed tubes are often de-spasmed with acupuncture, though blocked tubes will not respond to acupuncture). Acupuncture is often combined with herbs to treat elevated follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), repeated pregnancy loss, unexplained (idiopathic) infertility, luteal phase defect, hyperprolactinemia (when not caused by a prolactinoma), polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) with annovulatory cycles, and male factor including men affected with sperm-DNA-fragmentation.

Success of Cosmetic Acupuncture & Facial Rejuvenation

In a 1996 report published in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture, researchers treated 300 people with cosmetic (facial) acupuncture and found that 90% experienced marked improvements after one full course of treatment—typically two sessions per week over five weeks. Documented benefits included enhanced skin texture, increased elasticity, reduced fine lines, and an overall sense of rejuvenation that extended beyond the facial area. This study underscores the potential of cosmetic acupuncture as a safe, non-surgical alternative for improving skin aesthetics.

Your refreshed look can be long-lasting, depending on lifestyle factors like diet, exercise, and stress levels. Cosmetic acupuncture stands out as a cost-effective, holistic solution for glowing, radiant skin—without the need for invasive procedures. At Dallas AcuClinic, we provide 90-minute initial consultations, followed by a personalized treatment plan of twice-weekly sessions for five weeks. Throughout this process, we may also recommend herbal support, nourishing foods, Qi Gong exercises, and skincare tips to help amplify and sustain your results.

Additionally, because your overall health is addressed in each visit there are positive side effects to cosmetic acupuncture procedures that may include:

  • reduced depression and less anxiety;
  • better digestion and sleep cycles; and
  • fewer hot flashes and night sweats.

The Benefits of Facial Rejuvenation

Promotes blood and lymph circulation

increased circulation dilates peripheral blood vessels for better distribution of oxygen and nutrients as well as cellular regeneration.

Rehydrates the skin’s external layers

through stimulation of the secretion of the sweat and sebacious glands which encourages the regeneration of healthy skin cells.

Helps exfoliation

aids the proliferation of new skin cells, increases nutrition to the skin’s surface, improves the quality of the skin and promotes a healthy glow.

Increases oxygen consumption of the skin’s external layer

speeding up the release of carbon dioxide and nitrogen at the cellular level, helping to keep skin deeply clean; contributes to reducing the accumulation of excess grease on the skin’s surface.

Stimulates the production of elasin and 4 collagen proteins

in the skin to reduce and soften wrinkles.

Reduces and relaxes the tension in the nerves and muscles

improving the integrity of the skin resulting in improved overall facial appearance.

Allows healthy “breathing” of the skin

increasing the skin’s protective ability to ward off infections and clogged pores.

What I Treat

Stress

Acupuncture offers a powerful, natural approach to managing stress and restoring emotional balance. By stimulating specific points along the body’s meridians, acupuncture helps regulate the nervous system, calm the mind, and reduce the body’s stress response. • General Stress (Work, Emotional)
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Psycho-Emotional issues
  • Irritability
  • Mood stabilization

  • Adolescent Stress
  • Pain
  • Allergies
  • Depression
  • Immune Support
